Daniel Defoe, The History of the Devil, As Well Ancient as Modern: In Two Parts (1726)

bookEarly 18th century (literary/theological Satan reception)English
plannedpending

Public domain (US)

Public-domain Satan/Lucifer reception source recommended for import. Daniel Defoe (1661?-1731), two-part 1726 work; subject 'Devil -- Early works to 1800'; treat as literary/theological reception (satire + theology), NOT primary scripture. Two parts with numbered chapters -- segment by Part > Chapter. Suggested topics where relevant: satan-adversary, lucifer-lightbearer, fall-of-man, hell-underworld, cosmic-battle, forbidden-knowledge, serpent, angels-demons. Suggested evidence_label 'Mystical / Esoteric' (matching the existing Milton reception texts) or 'Academic / Scholarly Reconstruction'. DEDUP: Milton's Paradise Lost (Gutenberg #20) and Paradise Regained (Gutenberg #26/#58) are ALREADY imported (slugs paradise-lost, paradise-regained; version gutenberg-58; tradition satanism; evidence 'Mystical / Esoteric') -- do NOT re-import; admin_find_duplicate_texts confirmed #58 matches paradise-regained. Defoe #31053 is the only non-duplicate source in the task list (0 matches). IMPORT FEASIBILITY: Defoe plain text is ~724 kB -- too large to verify verbatim and pass as a single MCP import-draft payload in one safe pass; recommend the bulk/server-side import pipeline (chapter-segmented) so the full body is verified and not truncated. No partial body was forced, per the rule against importing unverified text. PLACEMENT: task tradition is christianity; consider grouping with the existing Milton reception texts under tradition 'satanism' and the 'Satan and Lucifer Reception Guide' dossier. TOPIC-TAG BACKFILL (separate from import): check the existing Paradise Lost / Paradise Regained passages for Satan/Lucifer reception topic tags and backfill if missing.

Nicolas Notovitch, The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ / The Life of Saint Issa (1894; 1916 public-domain printing)

bookLate 19th century (modern disputed 'lost years of Jesus' claim)French (claimed Tibetan/Pali source); represented in English translation
Indexed nowlinked

Public domain (US)

PROVENANCE/RIGHTS RECORD for an already-imported text; no re-import needed (would duplicate). The full text is already live as text slug 'life-of-saint-issa', version 'connelly-landsberg-1916' (J. H. Connelly & L. Landsberg English edition): 14 chapters, 244 passages, public_domain=true, allow_full_display=true, topics include lost-years-jesus and messiah-savior. Provenance: Nicolas Notovitch (b. 1858) claimed that while traveling in Ladakh in 1887 he was shown, at Hemis Monastery, a Tibetan/Pali manuscript titled 'The Life of Saint Issa, Best of the Sons of Men,' narrating that Issa (identified with Jesus) journeyed through Sind, India, the Himalayas and Persia during the 'lost years' before returning to Israel. First published as 'La vie inconnue de Jesus-Christ' (Paris, 1894). Disputed status: widely rejected by scholars; Max Mueller (1894) and J. Archibald Douglas (visited Hemis 1895; monks reported no such text) challenged it; no manuscript was ever produced. Keep evidence_label 'Disputed Claim / Needs Verification'; present as late-19th-century disputed reception, not ancient scripture or proven history. Public-domain corroborating witnesses: (1) Project Gutenberg eBook #29288 — 'Public domain in the USA' (the corpus version's source_url). (2) Internet Archive item 'unknownlifeofjes00notorich' — 1916 [c1894] reprint, Chicago: Indo-American Book Co., 191 pp., digitized from the University of California Libraries copy; 'Possible copyright status: NOT_IN_COPYRIGHT'; copyright-region US; original notice dated 1894; OCLC 10474148 / 1158064820; ark:/13960/t2k64f09x; OpenLibrary OL7137190M. Cross-tradition relevance: comparative links to Buddhism and Hinduism are appropriate (Issa's claimed study among Brahmins and Buddhists), but the text is catalogued under Christianity as disputed apocrypha. Enrichment submitted with this record: a source-image sidecar (ingest=false) of the 1916 printing title/cover scan from the Internet Archive copy, related to text life-of-saint-issa and topic lost-years-jesus.
